His career took a turning point when he debuted First Class cricket at an early age of 19 and successfully scored 118 runs. During the 1925-26 season, Don played for Bowral and scored 234 against Wingello. Due to his great performance, he was called by the New South Wales Cricket Association.
During the 1928-29 season, he scored 79 and 112. This was his third match in which he was called the youngest player to score a century. Sooner in 1930, he became a national hero when he scored 974 runs. Not only he was successful in this field, but also composed many songs on the piano such as Every Day Is A Rainbow Day For Me.
