Sir Charles Kingsford Smith's Wife was Mary Powell whom he got married at the Scots Church in Melbourne. Mary Powell was the daughter of a businessman from Melbourne. He met his second wife aboard a ship in late 1929 on a voyage from the United States to Australia. 


In his second wedding, it was Charles Ulm who was both his friend and fellow aviator who appeared to be the “Best Man”. It is known that the wedding had more than 10,000 people gathered as spectators which led to disrupting the traffic for hours.

Sir Charles Kingsford Smith had made several record-breaking attempts in his life by piloting the Southern Cross. From the Trans-Pacific flight to Trans-Tasman and others - he made great contributions to the aviation industry using his dedication and enthusiasm. 


He gained great appreciation from people all over and also won several awards. However, Sir Charles died tragically when his plane crashed off the coast. He was with Tommy Pettybridge to fly from England to Australia. This happened in Burma on the 8th of November in the year of 1935.
